Eleven minutes after getting hit by a line drive off Tampa Bay Rays hitter Desmond Jennings’ bat, J.A. Happ was carted off the field on a stretcher. Before disappearing inside the stadium, the immobilized left-hander raised his right hand and waved to a standing ovation.
